Our Library was founded in 1992 by Stephen B. Cox and had grown out of the small research archive started in 1990 by
the Baelder spiritual heritage society (the O.J.B.) to cater to the needs of study for its members via its 'Baelder
Journal'.
By 1991 it was found in that it was very hard to come by material in libraries and the public domain generally dealing
with the range of subjects concerning aspects of European heritage such as ancient religions, ancient sites, folklore,
mythology, spirituality, exoteric science and so on. So the Library was launched in 1992 with Stephen Cox's own personal
library as a core and with a request for donations of items and support from its members. Since that time it has grown to
over 10,000 items.
Over the years there have been distinct moments of development and progress. For example: (1) the decision by various
publishers to donate to the Library; (2) some members deciding to make a regular monthly donation to its fighting fund;
(3) the creation of a Board of Trustees; (4) the launch of the HouseCarlship scheme for student members to come to England
have a free study holidays of 1 month to 1 year, part of the time being spent in helping with tasks in the Library; (5) instituting
of the Witan (Council of leading members); (6) the launch of an electronic library department of collecting of items
from the internet; (7) photocopier facility; (8) publishing book reviews of selected books by other publishers.
The European Library is unfunded at present, is desperately short of space, and relies for its survival on the
donations of its members and by the public. Its small but dedicated staff and volunteers work many hours a week unpaid.
We are now looking for public or private or corporate sponsorship. If you can help: let us know!
Over 55 publishers now donate books to these unique archives, additional to various groups and societies, individual
scholars and authors, and institutions all of whom wish to have a copy of their corpus in this fascinating repository
.
TEL is a unique initiative and is the only Library catering exclusively to spiritual heritage of the regions and peoples
of pan-Europa and their folkloric, mythological, ethnographic, and ancient lore from which European civilisation was
created.
We have faced many challenges over the decade, not the least of which have been finance, facilities, space and manpower.
But with each challenge we have encountered, we have became stronger in our faith and in our unique work and our ability to
progress and achieve.
TEL is the natural resource and repository for unique aspects of the totality of the European heritage. It is vital
that whatever the future for Europe that T.E.L. (like the Alexandrian Library before it) offers a beacon of hope for the links
of our inheritance for the benefit of today and future generations.
It is very strictly non-political, charitable, voluntary. It is not aligned or linked with any other organisation. It rejects
racism, sectarianism, intolerance and bigotry. It is governed according to the Heritage Trust "Ethos" and "Articles
of Living" as created by its founder Stephen B. Cox
Its material consists of donations from publishers, individuals, groups and institutions; some purchases; and specially
prepared manuscripts from all over Europe (and N.America; the Antipodes etc)
We invite you to become a part of the Library today and a piece of its history tomorrow.
